HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Junior Robert Lindstrom is tied for third at 3-over-par and the Richmond men's golf team is in third after two rounds of the spring-season opening Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, played Monday.
The Spiders are in third place at 604 after rounds of 299 in the morning and 305 in the afternoon. South Carolina-Aiken is in first place at 591 and Francis Marion is in second at 593. Fellow Atlantic 10 teams George Washington (t-12th), Rhode Island (15th) and Saint Joseph's (16th) are also in the 16-team field.
"This was a great start to our spring season," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "There is obviously room for improvement, but I'm pleased with the first two rounds back. Robert put together two very strong rounds and hopefully he can make a run at the tournament title in the final round."
Lindstrom shot a 1-over-par 73 in the first round and 2-over-par 74 in the second round on the par-72, 6,828-yard Wexford Plantation Golf Club course. His 3-over 147 is just three shots off the lead entering Tuesday's final round.
Sophomore Michael Shrader is tied for eighth at 5-over 149, having shot a 73 in the first round and a 4-over 76 in the second round. Senior Tim Courtney and sophomore Sam Beach are tied for 30th at 11-over 155. Courtney shot a 78 in the first round and 77 in the second, while Beach went 77 in the morning and 78 in the afternoon. Senior Lawrence Lessing is tied for 35th at 156 (76-80).
