ORLANDO, Fla. - The Richmond men's golf team will play in the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship at Mission Inn Resort, beginning Friday.
The 54-hole tournament features 18 holes played over three days on a course that previously hosted the Atlantic 10 Championship in 1998 and 2000.
Charlotte will be going for their fourth-straight Atlantic 10 Championship, having won the title in each of its previous three years as members of the conference.
Richmond wrapped up the regular season at the Palisades Collegiate Classic, April 13-14, hosted by Charlotte. The Spiders were tied with the 49ers through 36 holes and finished nine shots back.
"We didn't play our best but we were right there with them," said Richmond sophomore Michael Shrader, who leads the team with a 74.60 scoring average. "So we are certainly confident, we know all that we have to do is play solid and we can be right there."
Shrader will be joined by seniors Tim Courtney and Lawrence Lessing, junior Robert Lindstrom and sophomore Sam Beach.
"I think we have a good chance, probably the best we've ever had," Richmond senior Tim Courtney said. "We're definitely a more mature team, we've been young in past years. We've got a lot of seniors and upperclassmen on the team so we're hoping to go out in style."
