PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - Richmond women's golfer Jackie Evans was co-medalist at sectional qualifying on July 20, earning a spot in the 109th U.S. Women's Amateur to be played Aug. 3-9 at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis.
Evans shot a 1-over 73 on the par-72, 6,280-yard Sunnybrook Golf Club course, to share medalist honors with Chelsea Curtis of New Seabury, Mass. The rising sophomore received a sterling silver medal for winning the qualifier.
"On the front nine I made three birdies," Evans said. "I was just in the zone, I chipped in, everything seemed to be going right. I wasn't hitting the ball great, but I put together a very strong round."
Evans was 1-under on the front nine and finished the back nine 2-over.
"I went into the qualifier not really having high expectations, I figured I would just swing for the fences and I ended up making it," Evans said.
Evans will head to St. Louis, Mo. On July 31st, take part in the practice round on Sunday, Aug. 2 and begin play in the 109th U.S. Women's Amateur on Monday, Aug. 3.
The Wayne, Pa. native played in six events as a freshman last season for the Spiders with her best finish a tie for 19th at the Spider Fall Invitational.
Evans will be doing a blog at the U.S. Women's Amateur here at RichmondSpiders.com.
