Llano, Van Alstine Post Fifth-Place Finishes Friday At Hokie Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Action began Friday evening at the Hokie Invitation Indoor Track & Field meet in Blacksburg, Va. and a pair of fifth-place finishes in distance events were the bright spots for Richmond on Day One. Matt Llano was fifth in the 3,000m and Amy Van Alstine was fifth in the mile.
Llano, in his first competition for the Spiders after redshirting last outdoor season and this past cross country campaign, raced to the finish in the 3,000m in a time of 8:26.25. Teammate Tim Quinn was 20th (8:37.92) in the same event.
"Well it wasn't as fast as I wanted," said Llano. "I'm just not there in our training cycle yet, but it was really good to get back on the track in a Richmond uniform."
Van Alstine was clocked at 4:54.17 in taking fifth in the mile. She was joined by Dana Guglielmo (5:09.28), who took 13th, and Beth Kelly (5:11.05), who was 18th.
Nicol Traynor turned in a ninth-place finish in the 3,000m (10:08.51), with Jenn Ennis taking 18th (10:24.60). Traynor also helped the women's 4x800m relay to a sixth-place finish.
Traynor posted a 2:21.5 split in the relay, along with Stephanie Paradis (2:21.4), Ennis (2:20.6) and Alyssa Mankin (2:26.7).
Jasmine Cottle was 19th in the 300m (41.58), Megan Ney was 16th in the triple jump (11.11m) and Monica Howard was 11th in the weight throw (15.73m).
Action concludes Saturday at the Hokie Invitational.
