Women 4th, Men 7th At Hoya Spiked Shoe Invitational

LANDOVER, Md. -
The Richmond Spiders opened 2011 with the women clinching fourth-place and the men finishing seventh at the Hoya Spiked Invitational in North Bethesda, Md.
The event, hosted by Georgetown University, was held on Friday, Jan. 14 at the Hanley Center for Athletic Excellence located on the campus of Georgetown Prep.
Sophomore Meghan Hart placed eighth in the 300m dash (45.72), while fellow sophomore Andi DeFonce finished seventh in the 500m dash (1:23.14).
Two sophomore Spiders competed in the 1000m run; Stephanie Paradis came in sixth-place (3:07.92), followed by Alex Hackett in seventh (3:18.19).
Freshman Kelsey McKenna finished fifth in the 60m hurdles (12:19), along with freshman Ann O'Toole who placed sixth in the 60m hurdles (12:25) and second in the high jump (4-10.00).
Hart and O'Toole also competed in the long jump competition: Hart came in second-place (4.91m) and O'Toole finished third (4.61m).
The women's competition concluded with McKenna's fourth-place finish in the triple jump (9.86m).
As for the men, freshman Tom Smail finished ninth in the 300m dash with a time of 39.40, and senior Matt Mello placed seventh in the 1000m run (2:44.06).
The next stop for the Spiders is the Maryland Terrapin Invitational on Jan. 22 in Landover, Md.
