UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND -- Junior Tracy Martin has been honored as the CAA women's golf Performer of the Week after her record-setting tournament at the Spider Invitational.
Martin earns her first career CAA weekly honor, leading Richmond to a second-place tie in the nine-team field at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian. For the Spiders, it marked their best tournament finish since a second-place showing at the First Market Intercollegiate in Williamsburg in 2009.
Martin tied the school record for low 18-hole score (69, -3), and set new school record for low 36-hole score (141, -3) and low 54-hole score (215, -1) and was edged on the first playoff hole. The previous Richmond 36-hole and 54-hole records were set by Natasha Moreira in 2005-06 - 145 (+1) and 218 (+2).
The Tyngsboro, Mass. native was the Day 1 leader after rounds of 69 (-3) and 72 (E). Tuesday, she posted a 74 (+2) and forced a playoff with Brown's Stephanie Hsieh. On the first playoff hole, Hsieh drained her birdie putt for the win after Martin's birdied bid came up inches short. The runner-up was the best career finish for Martin.
The Spiders are back in action Oct. 23-24 at the Palmetto Invitational at Oak Point GC in Kiawah Island, S.C.
