Berry, Johnson, Benford Win Events at Vince Brown Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Richmond indoor track & field competed in the Vince Brown Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Christopher Newport University. Emma Berry, X'auntasia Johnson, and Andrew Benford were individual event winners for the Spiders.
Sophomore Andi DeFonce placed 10th in the women's 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.79.
In the women's one mile run, freshman Alli Mannon finished sixth (5:06.57), freshman Amanda Lineberry finished seventh (5:07.23), and junior Beth Kelly finished eighth (5:08.99).
Freshman Jill Prentice clinched second-place in the women's 3,000 meter (9:57.00), while Molly Parsons followed closely behind, finishing fifth with a time of 10:40.59.
In the women's 5,000m run, junior Emma Berry captured first-place (18:13.45) and freshman Liz Schinski finished third (18:56.67).
Freshman Grace Gibson took seventh-place in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.30m (10-10.00).
Senior X-auntasia Johnson finished fifth with a mark of 5.32m (17-05.50) in the women's long jump. She also placed first in the triple jump with a mark of 11.47m (37-07.75), followed by sophomore Sarah Nuttycombe in sixth with a mark of 10.49 (34-05.00).
Senior Monica Howard came in second-place (15.66m) and junior Meaghan McGovern came in seventh (14.47m) in the weight throw.
As for the men, senior Matt Mello captured 10th in the men's 800m run (1:59.82).
Redshirt-senior Andrew Benford clinched first-place in the one mile run (4:12.05), followed by senior Tim Quinn in eighth (4:21.62).
Junior Devin Cassels came in 10th-place in the pole vault competition with a mark of 3.90m (12-09.50).
The Spiders return to action next weekend at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships in Kingston, R.I.
