Walker Is Runner-Up As Spiders Open Spring 3rd At Wexford

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Sophomore Daniel Walker tied for second and senior Michael Shrader tied for eighth as the Spiders finished third out of 13 teams at the spring-season opening Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.
The Spiders picked up right where they left off in the fall, posting their sixth top-5 finish in as many tournaments in the 2010-11 season, including their fourth-consecutive top-3 finish.
The Spiders shot a 301 in the opening round, followed by a 294 and 297 to finish at 892, three shots behind runner-up William & Mary and 15 shots behind champion Indiana.
Walker posted his best career finish, tying for second at 4-over 220 (74-73-73) on the par-72, 6,828-yard Wexford Plantation course. The 2010 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year posted his second-straight top-5 finish and sixth of his career.
Shrader tied for eighth at 223, including a second-round 3-under-par 69. It was Shrader's fourth top-10 finish of the season and the eighth of his career.
Senior Sam Beach tied for 17th at 9-over 225 (76-74-75), junior Brad Miller tied for 19th at 226 (73-78-75) and sophomore Nick Austin tied for 45th at 232 (80-78-74).
Richmond returns to action March 11-13 at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, N.C.
