Richmond Wins Five Events At JMU Invitational

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The University of Richmond track & field team walked away with five wins on Saturday afternoon after competing in Harrisonburg, Va. at the JMU Invitational.
"We had another good day, but still need to improve in several areas," said women's head coach Lori Taylor.
Sophomore Andi DeFonce took first-place in the 800m run (2:17.98), followed by freshman Alyson McGonigle in second-place (2:19.44) and sophomore Stephanie Paradis in sixth (2:25.14).
Sophomore Meghan Hart came in eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 27.20.
Sophomore Lydia Morton finished third (4:47.03) and freshman Amanda Lineberry came in fifth (4:48.23) in the 1,500m, while sophomore Devin Sullivan placed ninth in the 3,000m run (11:24.05).
In the 100m hurdles, freshman Meghan Hart came in fifth (15.76), and freshman Ann O'Toole finished sixth (16.25).
Freshman Liz Schinski placed second (11:50.31) and freshman Molly Parsons came in fifth (12:29.02) in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Freshman Grace Gibson took fourth-place in the pole vault competition with a mark of 3.25m.
Senior X'auntasia Johnson came in third in the triple jump (11.33m) and fourth in the long jump (5.52m).
Senior Monica Howard finished in first-place in the discus with a time of 45.44m, followed by redshirt-senior Heather Roush in second (42.67m). Roush also placed third in the shot put with a mark of 11.76m.
Freshman Ryan Lee captured first in the men's 1,500m race with a time of 3:58.16.
Senior Matt Mello came in fourth in the 800m run (2:01.37).
Senior Tremayne Graham competed in this first meet of the 2011 outdoor season. He finished first in the 100m dash (10.69); his time ranks second in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Graham also placed second in the men's 200m dash (21.68).
One of the Spiders' newest additions, Darryl Hamilton, came in second-place in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.11m.
Graham and Hamilton, along with other outdoor track & field newcomers, Cooper Taylor and Christian Parker, placed first in the men's 4x100m relay with a time of 42.59.
In the men's 3,000m steeplechase, sophomore Jason Skipper placed second (10:01.85), while sophomore Kyle Ragan came in third (10:15.44) and freshman Adam Owens finished fourth (10:27.06).
"Our athletes head into finals this week, with a few competing in the Penn Relays. It will be a tough week of studying, but then they will be able to focus on the Championships."
The Penn Relays next weekend will serve as the Spiders' final tune-up before they head to the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships in Charlotte, N.C. on May 7.
