
Austin And Beach Go Low As Third-Place Spiders Close Gap

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Sophomore Nick Austin shot a 5-under-par 67 and senior Sam Beach carded a 2-under 70 as third-place Richmond made up some ground on Xavier and Charlotte Saturday in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championship at Mission Inn Resort.
Austin is tied for second at 1-under-par 143 (76-67), one shot off the lead and Beach is in seventh place at 4-over 148 (78-70).
The Spiders shot a 1-over 289 to sit at 595, nine shots behind second-place Xavier (586) and 12 shots behind Charlotte (583).
Richmond's 289 Saturday is the lowest team round of the tournament, while Austin's 67 is the lowest individual round of the tournament by three shots. Austin and Beach have two of just four round shots under par on the par-72 El Campeon course through two rounds.
Senior Michael Shrader and junior Brad Miller are tied for 13th at 8-over 152, having both carded a pair of 76s. Sophomore Daniel Walker is tied for 20th at 11-over 155 (78-77).
The third and final round of the Atlantic 10 Championship is Sunday with the Spiders' tee times starting at 8:45 a.m.
