
Beach, Shrader, Miller Garner Postseason Awards

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND - The Virginia State Golf Coaches Association has named Richmond senior golfers Sam Beach and Michael Shrader Second Team All-State, while Shrader joined Brad Miller on the 2011 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars team.
The VSGCA selected the All-State Team. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2.
Beach led the Spiders with his 70.46 stroke average this past season, including a team-best 11 rounds under par. He posted his best finish by taking runner-up honors at the Richmond Intercollegiate, carding three red-figure rounds of 69-71-71 for a five-under par 211 total. At the A-10 Championship, the local product from nearby Deep Run High finished T-7th as the Spiders finished third overall.
Another local product, Midlothian High's Schrader collected five top-10 finishes in 2011, including a T-3rd at the Richmond Intercollegiate and a T-9th at the N.C. State Wolfpack Spring Open. His 70.86 stroke average was third on the squad.
A junior from Timonium, Md., Miller was fourth on the Spiders with his 71.50 stroke average in 2011. His best finish was a T-4th at the N.C. Wolfpack Spring Open, and he opened the year with a sixth-place finish at the Marshall Invitational where he carded the Spiders' low-round of the year with a first-round 66.
