UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND -- Junior Nick Austin has been named the Atlantic 10 men's golf co-Performer of the Week after an impressive top-10 finish at the VCU Shootout earlier this week.
Austin fired rounds of 67 (-5) and 69 (-3) over the final 36 holes and finished tied for seventh versus a competitive field on Monday and Tuesday at Hermitage Country Club. His 54-hole total of 211 (-5) marked the junior's fifth Top-10 finish since the start of last season, which includes a runner-up performance at the A-10 Championship last spring.
The Midlothian, Va. native and product of James River High carded a five-under 67 to rank as one of just 15 rounds in school history of five-under or better, while his two-round score of eight-under 136 is tied for the second-lowest two-round score to par in school history. Austin and the Spiders rebounded from a tough opening round and finished tied for seventh as a team at 1-under 863.
Richmond has played two tournaments this fall and have produced A-10 weekly award winners on both occasions as junior Daniel Walker earned A-10 Performer of the Week honors on Sept. 14 after his seventh-place showing at the Marshall Invitational.
The Spiders are in action again this Monday and Tuesday at the Wolfpack Invitational hosted by N.C. State in Raleigh, N.C.
