UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond Spiders men's golf team will head to Coral Springs, Florida this weekend to compete in the Atlantic 10 Championship. The 54-hole, three-day tournament begins at the Heron Bay Golf Club on Friday and runs through Sunday.
Live scoring for the men's golf conference championship will be available this year through Atlantic10.com and GolfStat.com once the tournament gets underway on Friday. Teams will tee off on Friday beginning at 7:30 a.m.
The 2011-12 season for the Spiders has been a solid one, with the team playing some of its beast golf of the year in the last month. The best team score this season for Richmond came at the VCU Shootout when the Spiders carded a three-round score of 863 (-1). Tying for seventh place, Richmond shot scores of 285 (-3) and 283 (-5) in the last two rounds.
Individually, senior Brad Miller has led the Spiders with a 73.07 scoring average on the season. Miller has also tallied one top-10 and four top-20 finishes on the year. Junior Nick Austin has also played for Richmond, averaging 73.71 strokes a round while notching two top-10's and three top-20's.
At last year's A-10 Championship, Austin was terrific, leading the Spiders to a third place finish. Individually, Austin tied for the lead with a score of 214 (-2), but took second place in a playoff. Daniel Walker also had a nice showing, tying for 10th place. The junior has placed in the top-10 both previous years at the conference championship.
