UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - A total of 65 Spider student-athletes were named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for Spring Semester 2012 on Wednesday. Richmond was one of seven conference schools that had each of its league-sponsored sports represented on the honor roll list.
"Academic success is one of the hallmarks of our Conference," said Commissioner Bernadette McGlade. "Our number of honorees continues to rise each semester, proving that our student-athletes, already incredibly successful in the classroom, continually strive for improvements. I commend them on their hard work, dedication and achievements."
Swimming & Diving led all Spider sports with 12 of its 18 women recognized to the conference honor roll. Soccer and Track & Field topped all men's teams with six student-athletes named to the list.
To be named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.5 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale) during the specified semester. Freshmen are eligible to receive the award.
The 1,369 overall conference honorees is the highest number of student-athletes to achieve the distinction since prior to 2007 and therefore making it the most during McGlade's tenure. It surpassed the previous record of 1,359 set during the Fall Semester 2011 and marks the third straight semester in which the total number of honorees has topped 1,300 and the previous semester.
