UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond Director of Track & Field Lori Taylor and head men's coach Steve Taylor announced the Spider men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field schedules for the 2012-13 seasons on Friday.
"Once again we look forward to a great year of track & field competition," said Lori Taylor. "Our 2012-13 dates provide us with a strong schedule that offers our student-athletes quality competitions. It shows we go to the highest quality meets in the country. We are also looking forward to hosting the Fred Hardy Invitational again this March, which has become one of the highlights of our spring season."
After the Spiders kick off the indoor season at Christopher Newport's Holiday Open on Dec. 8., they open the New Year at Virginia Tech's Hokie Invitational on Jan. 18 and 19. The teams will split up for the Navy Classic and George Mason's Patriot Games the following weekend before the squads head northward for the New Balance Collegiate in New York City on Feb. 1 and 2.
The Liberty Quad on Feb. will serve as the Spiders' final conference tune-up before they make their way back north for the Atlantic 10 Championships in Kingston, R.I. Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational the first weekend of March represents the Spiders' last chance to make the mark for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayettesville, Ark., from March 8-9.
The Spiders commence their outdoor slate across town at the VCU Invitational on March 16 and then make the quick trip to Williamsburg for the Tribe Open the next weekend. Richmond remains home for its annual Fred Hardy Invitational at Robins Stadium on March 29 and 30 before returning to Williamsburg for the Colonial Relays and then visiting Fairfax for the Mason Spring Invitational the following two weekends.
The teams will once again part ways beginning on April 18 when the squads split up for the Mt. SAC Relays in the greater Los Angeles area, Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational and the Morgan State Legacy in Baltimore. The nationally renowned Penn Relays will follow a week later.
The month of May opens with the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships on May 4 and 5 in Charlotte, with the next weekend's Virginia Classic and Georgia Tech Invitational serving as last-chance meets prior to Regionals.
Those Spiders having set qualifying marks will travel to the NCAA East Regionals in Greensboro, N.C., from May 23-25. This event will serve as the site where the participating Spiders have the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 5-8.
The final event on the 2012-13 schedule is an important one, as qualifying Spiders will make their way to the USA Track & Field Junior and Senior Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, from June 19-23.
