Over 230 Athletes Recognized For Academics

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Over 230 student-athletes representing all 19 of the University of Richmond's varsity sport teams were recognized by athletic director Keith Gill, Provost Steve Allred, and Faculty Athletics Rep Rick Mays for having achieved a 3.0 or higher cumulative or term grade point average after the Fall 2012 semester at Wednesday's basketball game
Over 62% of Richmond student-athletes have a 3.0 or better with 16 of our 19 sports team earning a GPA over 3.0. The student athletes represent every college and every major the University has to offer.
The football team achieved its highest fall GPA on record. The team leads the CAA with a 94 % Graduation Success Rate. Cooper Taylor is the reigning CAA Football Scholar Athlete of the Year.
The men's basketball team has the second highest academic progress score (APR) in the Atlantic 10 with a score of 995.
The women's basketball team recorded the highest fall term team GPA at the University.
The baseball team has broken their team GPA records for the past three straight semesters with over 50% of the team earning a 3.0 GPA or higher. The NCAA has recognized the team for their APR.
The women's soccer team has maintained a team GPA of 3.0 for 23 of the last 24 semesters with 75% of the team earning a 3.0 GPA or better in the fall.
The men's soccer team was recognized by the NCAA for their APR score, which ranked 19th out of 203 Division I programs.
Field hockey currently ranks first out of 78 schools for its perfect APR score of 1000. The squad earned a record GPA for the fall with over 75% of the team earning a 3.0 or better GPA.
The men's golf team has maintained the department's highest overall team GPA since 2008, and recorded the highest GPA for a male sport at the University in the fall. Every team member boasts a 3.0 GPA or higher and the team has a perfect graduation success rate.
The women's golf team continued its eight-year streak of earning a team GPA over 3.0. The team currently ranks first in the nation out 254 for APR with a perfect score of 1000.
The women's lacrosse also, leads the nation for APR score with a perfect score of 1000. This past fall the team set an all-time high team grade point average.
The women's tennis team has achieved a 3.0 team GPA for 24 out of the 25 past semesters. The team recorded the highest GPA mark for this past fall with every team member earning a GPA of 3.0 or better. Freshman Emily Gitman boasted the highest freshman athlete GPA for the fall.
Paul Nahon of the men's tennis team earned the highest sophomore male athlete GPA. The men's team has achieved a perfect graduation success rate for the past seven years.
The swim and dive team set a GPA record in the last two semesters. 90 percent of the team achieved a term or cumulative GPA of over 3.0 this past fall and achieved a perfect GSR of 100 percent.
Cheerleading had 78% of the team with cumulative or term GPA of 3.0 or better while over a quarter of the team boasts a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
The men's cross-country and track team has 13 consecutive semesters with a team GPA over 3.0 with 75 percent of members earning a 3.0 or better. The team was recognized for their APR score for the past six years straight and currently ranks number one in the nation with a perfect score of 1000. The squad was also award the USTFCCA All-Academic Team honor for the 11th consecutive year.
The women's track and cross-country team has achieved a 3.0 GPS for 23 of the last 25 semesters. Nearly 80 % of the team has a HGPA of 3.0 or better for the fall term. Like their male counterpart, the women's team was awarded the USTFCCA All-Academic Team honor for the 11th consecutive year.
