Spiders Off To Solid Start At CAA Championship

SOUTHPORT, N.C. – The University of Richmond Spiders women's golf team began play at the CAA Championship this afternoon, finishing the day in third place at the CAA Championship. Xavier leads the nine-team conference tournament with a score of 313 (+25).
Leading the way for the Spiders on the first day was senior Tracy Martin, who sits in first place after 18 holes with a score of 74 (+2). Martin was consistent on the round, shooting scores of 37 (+1) on both the front and back nines.
Martin enters the conference championship as one of the nation's hottest golfers, earning at least a top-20 finish in all nine Richmond events this season.
Sophomore Eliza Breed continued her strong play on Friday, carding a first-round score of 80 (+8) to tie for eighth place. Breed will be looking for her second top-10 finish this season at the CAA Championship.
Senior Courtney Rousse sits just one stroke behind her teammate in a tie for 13th place with a score of 81 (+9). Rousse enters this weekend with two top-20 finishes on the year so far.
Rounding out Richmond's effort on the first day of the CAA Championship were senior Caroline Lovette and junior Lauren Conder. Both golfers tallied scores of 82 (+10) to tie for 19th place.
