Spider Men's Golf Places Fifth At A-10 Championship

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The University of Richmond Spiders men's golf team wrapped up play at the Atlantic 10 Championship on Sunday, carding a final round score of 288 (E) to finish the conference championship in fifth place with a three-round score of 871 (+7). Charlotte won the 13-team A-10 tournament title with a total of 844 (-10).
Leading the way at the Atlantic 10 Championship this weekend for the Spiders were sophomore Colin McDade and freshman David Germann. Both golfers finished the tournament in a tie for ninth place with 54-hole totals of 215 (-1).
Germann was very consistent all weekend for Richmond, carding rounds of 71-73-71 to match his season-low tournament score of 215 (-1). McDade was also very steady for the Spiders, carding scores of 73-70-72. The top-10 finish is the fourth this season for McDade and the third for Germann.
Seniors Daniel Walker and Nick Austin both ended their outstanding Spider careers this weekend. Walkers tied for 22nd place with a score of 219 (+3), while Austin finished in a tie for 30th place with a total of 222 (+6). Rounding out the Spiders' effort, junior Jack Wilkes placed 50th with a score of 230 (+14).
With the conclusion of the Atlantic 10 Championship, the 2012-13 season has come to an end for the Richmond Spiders men's golf team. The year was a successful one for Richmond, as the team totaled five top-five finishes in their nine tournaments.
Richmond recorded three runner-up finishes during the season this year – at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate and at the Waterville Collegiate. The three runner-up finishes represent the best results for the Spiders since winning the N.C. State Invitational during the 2010-11 season.
