UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond released its 2013 schedule as announced by head coach Peter Albright Tuesday.
“This is one of our most demanding schedules in years,” said Albright, who begins his 18th year at the helm of the program. “I am really excited to have the opportunity to compete against some outstanding and historic women's soccer programs. We will be competing against some of the best leagues in the country in the ACC, Ivy League, CAA and Big East. This schedule will allow us time to prepare for A-10 play, and will give us an opportunity to make a case for ourselves for the NCAA Tournament.”
Richmond plays five games at Robins Stadium, with its home opener against Longwood Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m. The Spiders will then host Saint Louis and St. Bonaventure in October and finish their home slate against Duquesne and Massachusetts the weekend of Oct. 25.
The Spiders begin their 2013 schedule at the James Madison Fairfield Inn Tournament, one of two tournaments Richmond will participate in this year. Richmond squares off against host JMU Friday, Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in both teams' season opener. The Spiders continue tournament action with Old Dominion Sunday, Aug. 25 at 11 a.m.
After returning home to host Longwood, the Spiders play eight-straight away games, beginning at perennial power Virginia Sunday, Sep. 1 at 5 p.m. Richmond then plays at Princeton and Villanova the following weekend.
Richmond plays in the VCU Tournament the weekend of Sept. 13, squaring off against Campbell University and the University of Maine. After the tournament, Richmond continues road action at West Virginia Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. Richmond concludes its non-conference schedule at American University Sep. 25 at 4 p.m.
Richmond opens A-10 play at conference power Dayton Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. before returning home to host Saint Louis Oct. 4 in its A-10 home opener. Richmond then hosts St. Bonaventure Oct. 12 before visiting new member George Mason Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
The Spiders host Duquesne and UMass in their last home weekend tilt before traveling to VCU Nov. 1 for a 7 p.m. game. Richmond concludes its regular season at George Washington Sunday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.
The A-10 Tournament is scheduled to be held at Sportsbackers Stadium Nov. 8-10 on the campus of VCU.
