UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders football team finalized their team captains for the 2014 season, head coach Danny Rocco announced.
In a team vote conducted this past Friday, QB Michael Strauss, LB Eric Wright and DL Justin Williamson were added as captains, joining OL Austin Gund, LB Aaron Roane and DB Reggie Barnette who were named captains at the beginning of the season.
“I have been impressed with our senior leadership all season long,” Rocco said. “We have a number of outstanding role models who have offered consistent leadership throughout the season.
“During the season we announced game day captains who joined those who were previously nominated. Our plan all along was to re-vote at the end of the regular season to identify a more comprehensive group of team leadership. This final announcement was made to the team Saturday morning before the Morgan State game. These six student-athletes have offered exemplary leadership throughout the regular season and will continue to lead our program in to the postseason.”
Fresh off a 46-24 win over Morgan State in the first round of the FCS Playoffs, the No. 16/18 Richmond Spiders will travel to Conway, S.C. to face the No. 6/6 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
