LUTZ, Fla. – Sophomore David Germann and junior Danny Pizetoski both shot under par and the Richmond men's golf team is in second place after the first round of the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship, played Friday at TPC Tampa Bay.
Germann shot a 2-under 69 and is one shot off the lead, shared by VCU's Adam Ball and St. Bonaventure's Josh Stauffer. Pizetoski is in fourth place after carding a 1-under 70.
The Spiders shot an 8-over 292 and are six shots behind leader VCU (286). Dayton is in third at 301, nine shots behind the Spiders and George Washington is in fourth at 304.
Germann shot a 1-over 36 on the front nine and under more difficult conditions in the afternoon, he had four birdies on the back nine for a 3-under 33. Pizetoski went 2-under on the front nine and 1-over on the back nine.
Junior Colin McDade is tied for 15th at 5-over 76 and senior Jack Wilkes is tied for 21st at 6-over. Sophomore John David Sanderson tis tied for 28th at 8-over.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will be played Saturday morning with the Spiders starting to tie off at 9:45 a.m.
