05/16/2014 | Men's Golf
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - Richmond junior Danny Pizetoski is tied for 33rd after the opening round of the 2014 NCAA Rich Harvest Farms Regional, played Monday.
Pizetoski shot a 6-over-par 78 under the cold and windy conditions at Rich Harvest Farms Country Club. Only three players in the 74-man field broke par.
The Davidson, N.C. native is one shot behind Michigan's Chris O'Neill for the lowest score of an individual on Thursday. Pizetoski is four shots out of 11th place.
He played even-par golf over the last 12 holes and carded a 1-under on the back nine.
Pizetoski will tee off in Friday's second round at 11:12 a.m. ET. Live scoring through golfstat is available at this link.
Pizetoski received a bid as individual after winning the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship, his third tournament title of the 2013-14 school year.
This is the second-straight season that Richmond has had an individual earn a spot in the NCAA Regionals. Daniel Walker earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Regional in Tallahassee last spring. Walker tied for second at the Regional, advancing to the NCAA National Championship.
The Rich Harvest Farms Regional is one of six that will be played throughout the country. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete in each Regional. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship, May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
