SIMPSONVILLE, KY -- Coming off the win in Wisconsin, the Richmond Spiders women's golf program finishes its fall schedule by playing in the Cardinal Cup, hosted by the University of Louisville. The course, the UofL Golf Club, is a par-72, 6,132-yard layout. The Spiders are part of a 15-team field, which tees off at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning, for a 36-hole first day of competition.
Prior to the win at the Loyola Whistling Straits Intercollegiate last week, Richmond posted third and sixth-place finishes so far this season as a team, in the top third of squads in both tournaments so far this year. Richmond has five Top-10 individual finishes, and two others in the Top 20 so far.
Head coach Ali Wright will send the same five golfers as she has for the Spiders' first three tournaments. Senior Jessica Lydia (Jakarta, Indonesia) and sophomore Elsa Diaz (San Antonio, Texas) will be joined by freshmen Isabella Rusher (Salisbury, North Carolina), Annie Collom (Davidson, North Carolina) and Sophie DiPetrillo (Dover, Massachusetts) on the playing roster.
The 56-hole tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday, teeing off with a shotgun start at 9:15 a.m. Richmond is paired with Ball State and Cincinnati for the first day. They will start on holes 14-17 to open the tournament. Tuesday's pairings are determined by Monday's team finish.
This will be the toughest field the Spiders will play with this season to date. Louisville, ranked No. 20 in the latest “Golfweek” rankings, is fielding an “A” and a ”B” squad for this event. Other teams in competition include Bradley, Chattanooga, Columbia, No. 23 East Carolina, No. 47 Florida State, No. 42 Illinois, Indiana, No. 32 Notre Dame and Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.
