11/03/2015 | General
NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— The premiere episode of “A-10 Spotlight,” a weekly show dedicated to the people, stories, and news in the Atlantic 10 Conference debuts Saturday on American Sports Network (ASN). Among the features on the first show is a behind-the-scenes look at SpiderTV's production of the A-10 Cross Country Championships, which included cutting-edge drone technology.
The weekly, 30-minute magazine show will air Saturdays on ASN affiliates across the country.
“The Atlantic 10 continues to grow its television presence each year, and 'A-10 Spotlight' is a natural next step. It gives us an opportunity to tell many of our stories to a nationwide audience each week,” said Patrick Nero, Director of Athletics and Recreation at the George Washington University and Chair of the Atlantic 10 Athletic Directors. “The conference partnership with ASN, and the additional national coverage it provides to the A-10, benefits our programs, coaches and student-athletes in a myriad of ways, from fan and alumni support to recruiting.”
“ASN is excited about expanding our coverage of the Atlantic 10 Conference,” said Bill Lutzen, Vice President and General Manager of ASN. “This show will focus on telling the stories about the positive aspects of student-athlete lives and touch on some of the sports that do not necessarily get the recognition they deserve.”
Saturday's debut episode will include a men's basketball season preview, an inspirational feature on the dedication of an Atlantic 10 student-athlete, a behind the scenes look at last weekend's Cross Country Championships, which were streamed internationally with impressive race footage from cutting-edge drone technology. The second episode scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14 will preview the women's basketball season, showcase highlights from the women's soccer championship and preview the men's soccer championship set for Sunday, Nov. 15. Both soccer championship games will air live on ASN as well -- check local listings for stations.
The weekly “A-10 Spotlight” will be produced at ASN's new West Palm Beach, Fla., studios. Monica McNutt, one of the most talented new hires in sports broadcasting, will host the program. A former student-athlete, McNutt has anchored A-10 feature stories as well as anchoring the ASN on-site studio coverage during last year's women' s basketball championship.
The show will air Saturday on 62 Sinclair-owned stations covering approximately 40 million households nationwide. These include WNYO (Buffalo, N.Y.), WRGT-2 (Dayton, Ohio), WPNT (Pittsburgh, Pa.), WJAR-2 (Providence, R.I.), WRLH-2 (Richmond, Va.), KDNL-2 (St. Louis, Mo.) and WJLA-3 (Washington, D.C.), all A-10 markets. Check local listings for times.
“This is an exciting and fun new venture for the league,” stated Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. “American Sports Network has been innovated partner and the conference is looking forward to a great season.”
ASN will televise more than 50 A-10 events this year across seven sports, including 32 men's basketball games, nine women's basketball games and championship coverage in men's and women's soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
