ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Richmond will begin the final round of the Patriot League Championship in third place after shooting +72 (648) through Saturday's first two rounds at the Naval Academy Golf Course.
The Spiders had a number of big holes from players one through six, as the team tallied 16 birdies and one eagle.
“We had a number of good shots from a lot of different players today,” head coach Ali Wright said. “I felt like we lost a few strokes in certain places, but we are going to hit the final round with renewed focus. We still have an opportunity to make a statement in our first Patriot League Championship.”
Freshman Elsa Diaz led the squad with a score of 77-82-159 (+15). She knocked in one of just two eagles in the first two rounds by shooting a three on the par-5 eighth hole. Diaz sits in eighth place entering Sunday.
Older sister Sara Diaz was just one stroke behind Elsa, shooting 81-80-161 (+16) to place ninth. Junior Jessica Lydia shot 82-80-162 (+17) to rank third on the team and 10th overall.
Kira Kuhnert turned in two solid rounds of 84-83-167 (+23), tying for her best rounds in 2015. She led the team with five birdies which was second-most in the tournament so far.
Maria Pons Cano shot 83-87-170 (+26), and Alicia Reggiannini carded 87-92-179 (+35).
