Spider Athletics Banquet Honors Student-Athlete Achievement

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The annual Richmond Student-Athlete Celebration, held Monday night in the Robins Center main arena, honored the outstanding accomplishments of over 300 Spider student-athletes from the school's 17 varsity sports.
The evening commenced in the Robins Center's Spider Club Terrace with a special gathering for the seniors. They then proceeded down to the arena floor to sit with their teams for the evening's meal.
After the dinner, master of ceremonies Bob Black, Senior Woman Administrator LaRee Sugg, Assistant Athletic Director Bruce Matthews and Director of Athletics Keith Gill presented the evening's awards.
Special recognition was given with the Spider Athletics Acheivement Award, given to a faculty or staff member who has provided extraordinary support to student-athletes through their work and efforts. The athletic department honored Dr. Edward L. Ayers with this year's award. Dr. Ayers is retiring after eight years as the University of Richmond's president.
The event concluded with a 2014-15 highlight video featuring top plays from every sport.

Top Freshmen GPA: Katie Brennan (Women's Soccer), Natalie Dowzicky (Swimming & Diving), Anna Hakkenberg (Women's Soccer), Kylie Regan (Women's Cross Country), D.J. Lee (Baseball)
Top Sophomore GPA: Leslie Espenschied (Women's Lacrosse), Stathi Kyriakides (Men's Tennis)
Top Junior GPA: Emily Gitman (Women's Tennis), Brian Gramolini (Men's Lacrosse)
Presidential Citation Award: Drika Bianchin (Women's Soccer), Rob Poirier (Men's Lacrosse)
Breakout Performance Award: Meaghan Carrigan (Women's Soccer), Michael Morman (Baseball)
Spider Athletics Achievement Award: President Edward L. Ayers
Spider Club Student-Athletes of the Year: Kendall Anthony (Men's Basketball), Rebecca Barry (Field Hockey)
Bunkie-Trinite Most Outstanding Team Award: Swimming & Diving
