Women's Golfers Post Top-10 Finishes In Summer Action

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond rising sophomore Elsa Diaz led a number of strong weekend performances by Spider women's golfers in summer amateur tournaments.
Diaz placed ninth at the 2015 Women's Eastern Golf Association (WEGA) Amateur Championship at the Lexington Golf and Country Club in Lexington, Va. The tournament brings together the best amateur women's golfers in 17 states along the eastern seaboard.
She shot +11 (74-77-73=224) to finish in the top 10 of the 60-player field. Diaz is coming off a terrific freshman season that saw her earn All-Patriot League honors after placing seventh at the Patriot League championships.
Incoming Spider freshman golfers were also in action this past weekend.
Annie Collom finished tied for seventh at the North Carolina Women's Golf Association's Amateur Championship held at Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington, N.C.
A native of Davidson, N.C., Collom shot +11 for the tournament, carding a 74-75-78=227. Collom NCSIAA individual champion from the Cannon School in 2013.
Isabella Rusher, from Salisbury, N.C., also competed in the championship, placing fifth in the second championship flight. She bounced back from a tough first round to score 82-75-79=236 (+20) for the tournament. Rusher was the North Carolina Junior Girls Champion in 2012.
