GREENSBORO, N.C. - Rising sophomore Matthew Lowe won the 2015 Cardinal Amateur Golf Championship over the weekend.
The annual event is held at the Sedgefield Country Club Dye Course in Greensboro, N.C., and is one of the top amateur events of the summer calendar. Many past winners have gone on to careers on the PGA Tour.
A native of Farmville, N.Y., Lowe shot two rounds of par and a two-under 68 to win by one stroke (70-70-68=208, -2).
For Lowe, it marked yet another outstanding performance after he posted the lowest amateur score at the Long Island Open earlier this summer. The reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Lowe finished second at the Atlantic 10 Championship in April.
Lowe competed with several familiar faces as Spider teammates and North Carolina natives David Germann, Keegan Hoff and graduated senior Danny Pizetoski all competed in the event. Pizetoski tied for fourth overall, while Germann placed 27th and Hoff was 68th.
