HUNTINGTON, W.V. - The Richmond Spiders tied for seventh in the 16-team field at the season-opening Marshall Invitational at the Guyan Country Club in Huntington, W.V.
The event was the first tournament for Richmond's fall season and sophomore Matthew Lowe continued right where he left off last spring.
The Long Island native shot five-under par (208) to tie for 10th place overall. He went under par every round (69-70-69=208) and totaled 12 birdies on the championship.
Keegan Hoff finished second for Richmond, shooting even with three consecutive rounds of 71 (71-71-71=213). He placed 23rd overall.
David Germann came in 41st overall with a final score of +3 (216). However, Germann shot the best round of any Spider on Monday afternoon when he carded a five-under 66. It was a new career-low round for Germann and ranks sixth all-time among the lowest rounds in school history.
Senior John David Sanderson shot (75-74-73=222) to finish at +9, while freshman Ben Wanichek was just two strokes behind him at (71-75-78=224, +11).
Junior Mark Reilly competed independently and shot eight-over par (75-72-74=221) to place 69th overall.
Richmond will be back in action on Oct. 12-13 at the AutoTrader Collegiate in Duluth, Ga.
