Dear Spider Football Family,
Let me start by congratulating the 2016 University of Richmond Spiders football team on another terrific season. We are very proud of the work that Coach Rocco and his assistants have done developing our student-athletes and the University of Richmond football program. We continue to be impressed by our students, who are tremendous representatives of the mission and values of the University of Richmond. Our student-athletes continue to have great success in the classroom, to win championships and to develop into great leaders. That is the proud tradition of athletic success at Richmond.
We would like to thank Coach Rocco for his service to our University and wish him well in the future. We respect that this is a personal decision for Coach Rocco.
The Spider football program will continue to be strong. The university and the athletics department has made a tremendous investment in football, which we will continue. Those investments have certainly been reflected in the success of the football program. Since 2000, Spider football has made nine playoff appearances, advanced to the national semifinals three times and won a national championship. We are committed to maintaining the winning tradition of our football program.
My colleagues and I have already initiated our search for a new head football coach. I am confident that we will hire a tremendous leader that can build on the great work that our university, the athletics department, the previous coaches and our student-athletes have done to build our football tradition.
Thank you for your continued support of Spider Football. None of the success of our football program would be possible without you.
Best regards,
