LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Richmond women's golf team sits in first place after the first two rounds of the 2016 Patriot League Championships at the Bucknell Golf Course.
The Spiders hold a 10-stroke lead over Lehigh and 11-stroke lead over defending champion Boston University heading into Sunday's final round.
“I was so proud with the way that we competed today,” head coach Ali Wright said. “Once we again we had big contributions up and down the lineup and everyone showed a lot of toughness over a 36-hole day.”
Senior Jessica Lydia put forth a valiant effort, battling through lingering injury and sickness to shoot +9 (76-73), and sit just two strokes off the overall lead. Lydia made four birdies through the two rounds and did not make higher than bogey on any hole.
Freshman Annie Collom finished her second round with three consecutive birdies to finish at +13 (75-78) and sit in fourth place overall. Classmate Sophie DiPetrillo played well over two rounds to shoot +15 (77-78) and tie for sixth overall.
Freshman Isabella Rusher started out strong, tying for the team-low score of 75 in the first round before finishing at +17 with 75-82. Sophomore Elsa Diaz rebounded from a tough first round to shoot 77 in the second round, including one-over-par over the last nine holes.
Senior Elizabeth Rubino competed in her third-straight tournament for UR and finished at 79-84.
The final round begins at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow with UR competing with Lehigh and Boston University.
