Richmond Men's Golf Heads To Atlantic 10 Tournament
04/27/2016 | Men's Golf
ORLANDO - The Richmond men's golf team will travel to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the 2016 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship.
This year's tournament will be held at the Cypress Gardens Golf Course from Friday, April 29 to Sunday, May 1.
UR returns to the championship as the reigning runner-up program. The Spiders have placed second each of the last two years and sport three second-place finishes and two third-place finishes since 2010. Richmond was picked second by the league's coaches in the preseason poll this February.
This year, Richmond is led by sensational sophomore Matthew Lowe. The reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Lowe enters the tournament after carding nine under-par rounds this year. He shot a school-record round of 63 (-8) in his last outing at the Wolfpack Invitational.
Lowe is currently sporting a season stroke average of 71.16 through 18 rounds of play. If the season ended today, that average would rank first all-time in Richmond history.
Senior David Germann is second on the squad with a 73.94 stroke average and four under-par rounds. He placed fifth at last year's conference championships. Germann carded a career-low round of 66 (-5) in his first tournament of the season at Marshall back in September.
Junior Keegan Hoff has been solid all season, posting a low round of 71 (-1) and a low tournament of 213 (E). A veteran of the A-10 Tournament, Hoff placed 34th at last year's tournament.
Senior John David Sanderson and freshman Ben Wanichek round out Richmond's starting lineup. Sanderson was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week earlier this year, while Wanichek has one under-par and two even rounds in his first-year arsenal.
