UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Earlier this month, the 300-plus student-athletes that put on the Richmond uniform spent time giving back to the community that supports them year-round.
The Richmond Spiders' Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) brought together members from 17 programs on Saturday, April 16 to host a food drive for FeedMore, a service organization in Richmond that collects and distributes food, at the annual Spring Football Game.
Over 350 pounds of food was collected, which will feed nearly 700 people in the Metro Richmond area.
“It's important for us as student-athletes and ambassadors for the University to support the community that supports our programs year round,” SAAC President Allison Haas said. “We want to use our position as student-athletes to reach people that need help the most and we're excited about the opportunity to help FeedMore and members of the Richmond community.”
Canned goods and non-perishables were donated throughout the day on Lessing Plaza thanks to hard work of many of student-athletes from the university's 17 intercollegiate programs.
