#ThrowBackThursday: Joe Douglas '99 Earns New Role With Eagles

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The pipeline to the NFL doesn't stop on the field for the University of Richmond football program. Plenty of former Spiders have made a name for themselves in the front office and that tradition continued this week when former Spider Joe Douglas was named Vice President of Player Personnel for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Douglas, a 1999 graduate and Richmond, Va. native, will oversee the talent evaluation for the current Eagles team as well as any future draft picks or free agent signings.
Prior to his new role with the Eagles, Douglas spent last season as one of the top scouts in the Chicago Bears organization.
“The hiring of Joe Douglas is an absolute homerun for Eagles. He's widely regarded as one of the hardest workers guys in the business,” NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah said.
Douglas made a name for himself during his 15 years as a scout with the Baltimore Ravens, where he won two Super Bowl rings (2000, 2012), and most notably was involved with the drafting and development of Pro Bowl quarterback Joe Flacco.
After starring at nearby Lee-Davis High School, Douglas came to Richmond and had an outstanding career on the offensive line, twice earning All-Atlantic 10 accolades.
