Matthew Lowe Ready For NCAA Regionals
05/13/2016 | Men's Golf
FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Richmond sophomore men's golfer Matthew Lowe will compete as an individual in the 2016 NCAA Regional in Franklin, Tenn., on May 16-18. The event is hosted by Vanderbilt University at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
Lowe will compete against 13 teams and nine other individuals for a chance to advance to the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Ore., on May 27-June 1. The top five teams, and the top individual not on those five teams, will advance.
A native of Farmingdale, N.Y., Lowe was named an Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection this week for his seasonal accomplishments and performance at the championship. He finished in a tie for seventh overall as he helped Richmond to a second-place finish.
Lowe has compiled five top-10 and two top-20 finishes this season, along with 10 under-par rounds. His season stroke average of 71.61 currently ranks first in the Richmond record books and 75th in the country.
Lowe becomes the third Spider to earn an NCAA individual bid in the last four seasons. In 2013, Daniel Walker advanced to the NCAA National Championships, while in 2014 Danny Pizetoski won the Atlantic 10 Medalist and earned the automatic bid to the regionals.
The Spiders have been represented in the NCAA postseason seven times since 1999, and four times under Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year Adam Decker.
