UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Athletic Department found itself amongst some of the nation's elite departments this past week when the final 2015-16 Capital One Standings were announced.
For the first time in program history, the Spiders finished in Top-25, finishing 21st in the men's standings.
“It's a tremendous accomplishment for our department. Our student-athletes, coaches and staff work extremely hard and they deserve to be recognized among the best programs in the country,” Director of Athletics Keith Gill said.
The Capital One Cup rewards points for top-10 finishes nationally and thanks to the Spiders' Football team FCS Semifinal appearance in December, Richmond earned 30 points, which placed them 21st nationally.
Beginning in 2010, The Capital One Cup is an NCAA athletics award honoring the top Division 1 men's and women's college athletics program in the country. The best NCAA Division 1 men's and women's athletics program take home the Capital One Cup trophy and combined $400,000 in student-athlete scholarships.
