RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Keegan Hoff tallied seven birdies, including six on the back nine, to lead Richmond to its second-best team round in school history at the Janney VCU Shootout at the Country Club of Virginia's Tuckahoe Creek Course.
Hoff shot 66 (-6) on the day, tying for fourth-lowest round in school history at -6. He finished the tournament at six-under par (72-66=138) to place 11th overall. Hoff was on a tear in his back nine, knocking in six birdies and one-putting every green. He hit 12 birdies for the tournament, the second-most among any player. His 36-hole tournament score of -6 was a new personal record and ties for eighth in the school record book.
Hoff's spectacular performance paced an elite Spider effort up and down the lineup. Richmond shot -9 (279) as a team with none of the top four scores over par. That team round score ranks second all-time in Richmond men's golf history.
The Spiders placed seventh as a team with a two-round score of -5 (571).
Junior Matthew Lowe finished his tournament at even par, carding consecutive rounds of 72. Six of his last 11 tournament scores have been even par or better.
Senior Mark Reilly shot a final round of 71 to also finish at even par for the tournament (73-71=144). It marked Reilly's best tournament score in his career.
New Spider freshmen Zack Justice and Andrew Sciarretta also turned in fantastic rounds. Justice shot 70 (-2) for his first under-par round of his career. He finished at 75-70=145 (+1) to place 33rd overall. Sciaretta also bounced back with a round of 73 to finish at 78-73=151 (+7).
Richmond will next compete in Ireland at the Waterville Intercollegiate from Waterville, Ireland.
