DiPetrillo Leads Spiders at Cardinal Cup
10/22/2017 | Women's Golf
SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Richmond women's golfer Sophie DiPetrillo continued her hot start to the 2017-18 season by closing out the fall with a +7, 223 at the Cardinal Cup, finishing in a tie for ninth to lead the Spiders who completed the event in 12th place.
The junior began the weekend with a +2, 74 before finishing Saturday with an even-par 72. Her second round 72 marked the third time this season that DiPetrillo posted a round of par or below already this season. She tossed in a final round 77 to finish off the fall with a stroke team-leading stroke average of 74.42, which outpaces her career average by more than three strokes. Her tie for ninth ensured that Sophie finished the fall with four-straight top-10 finishes.
Freshman Lizzie Reedy kept up her strong start in her debut campaign by carding scores of 75, 79 and 75 to post a +13, 229 for the second-straight event. Her scores were good enough to finish in a tie for 34th. The freshman finished in the top 40 in all four events this fall.
Elsa Diaz (+19, 235), Annie Collom (+27, 243) and Isabella Rusher (+33, 249) completed the scoring for the Spiders this weekend. Richmond's fall season has come to a close with a number of program milestones reached, most notably its three-even win streak that left the Spiders as the last unbeaten team in the country.
The Spiders will return to competition in late February 2018 when it heads to the Kiawah Islands Classic (Feb. 25-27) where they finished 12th of 43 programs last year. Then it's on to the Pinehurst Intercollegiate (Mar. 14-16), Kingsmill Intercollegiate (Mar. 19-20) and Harvard Invitational (Apr. 7-8) before attempting to three-peat at the Patriot League Championship (Apr. 21-22).
