LOXLEY, Ala. – The University of Richmond men's golf team completed its fall season with a strong showing at the Steelwood Intercollegiate over the weekend, collecting a 10th-place finish against a field that included some of the nation's top programs.
Matthew Lowe matched his second-best outing of the fall, posting a +4, 220 for the second event in a row. He fired a +2, 74 in the first round then followed with back-to-back 73's to finish in a tie for 15th overall out of 64. The senior finishes the fall with a stroke average of 73.50, tops on the team.
Not far behind Lowe was emerging freshman Stuart Fuller who shook off a first-round 81 and improved down the stretch with scores of 76 and 73, respectively, to close with a +14, 230. He was tied for 52nd entering the final round and climbed all the way up to a tie for 36th to close out his fall. Already with one Atlantic 10 Rookie Golfer of the Week award under his belt, Fuller could add another following this effort.
Ben Wanichek concluded his strong fall season by matching fuller with a +14, 230 as well. Zack Justice (+18, 234) and Andrew Sciarretta (+22, 238) rounded out the lineup for the Spiders.
Richmond will now rest through the winter months before returning to the course for the Mobile Intercollegiate (Feb. 12-13), which will be held at Magnolia Grove. The defending Atlantic 10 Champions will play four events in the spring before heading back to Grand Cypress in Orlando, April 27-29, to attempt to defend their crown.
