UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond men's cross country runner made history on Friday night at the Fred Hardy Invitational. Freshman Miles Clikeman set a new U.S. 20K Junior National Track Record by completing the race in 1:09:07.50 breaking the record of 1:13:13 previously held by Dale Green, set in 1980.
This fall, Clikeman was the top freshman finisher for the Spiders at every cross country event and earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors on two occassions. His sub twenty-five effort for five miles in Sacramento, Cal. was on of the best marks for a freshman in the league. He went on to finish 38th in at the A-10 Championships with a time of 25:45.1, the third best time of any newcomer at the meet.
Prior to his arrival last fall, Clikeman, a North Chesterfiled native and Veritas grad, won seven VISAA State Championships in Virginia, including three consecutive Cross Country titles in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Was the 2016 State champion in the 1600m and 3200m. Placed 11th at the prestigious Milestat.com XC Classic against many of the top runners from Virginia.
