Lowe Named Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week
04/13/2017 | Men's Golf
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Matthew Lowe had arguably the best weekend of his spring season at the Gary Koch Invitational this week and those results have earned him the nod as Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
The junior produced the best round of his spring, carding a three-under 69 during the final round, en route to completing the tournament with a two-under par 214 for the week; good for a tie for ninth overall. The team went on to finish 12th.
Lowe's scores improved with each round after posting a three-over 75 in round one on Monday. He followed with back-to-back rounds under par (70, 69) to erase the damage and finish in the top 10. During Tuesday's round alone, Lowe jumped 13 places in the standings thanks in large part to six birdies, three of which came on the last four holes. Prior to this, Lowe's best round of the season came in the fall when he shot a three-under 69 at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate in the middle of October.
The men's golf team will be off next week before making the trip to Orlando, Fla. the following weekend (Apr. 28-30) for the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship which is being held at Grand Cypress CC. The Spiders finished second last season and will be looking to exorcise those demons when the time comes.
