Two First-Half Goals Spark Richmond Win At Davidson, 2-1

DAVIDSON, N.C.. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team scored two first-half goals and held on to defeat Davidson, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale.
The Spiders finish the season with a 2-15-1 record and were 2-7-1 in the Atlantic 10. Davidson falls to 2-14-1 and 0-9 in A-10 play.
"Today was a tough Atlantic 10 battle and we scored two great goals to get the win," head coach Marty Beall said. "I am very happy for our girls and especially our seniors. They have stayed strong in the changes and I'm forever grateful for them."
In the first half, Richmond came out attacking scoring two goals in the first half. In the 17th minute, freshman Alyssa Hendricks (Grimes, Iowa) floated a shot over the keepers' head to the far post to put the Spiders on the board. It was Hendricks first collegiate goal of the season.
Six minutes later, junior Brooke Beam (Dagsboro, Del.) fired a shot that hit the post and bounced into the net for her second goal of the season. Senior Jenny Crowell (Sudbury, Mass.) found Beam to earn an assist on the play.
Davidson responded in the 28th minute scoring off a corner kick as Mia Hodges tapped in the goal.
Richmond finished the first half with six shots and Davidson ended with nine.
In the second half, the Spiders had three shots and earned one corner kick. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Emily Wigg (Richmond, Va.) came away with five saves in the win.
In the 60th minute, Davidson almost tied the game at 2-2 but was called offside.
Sophomore TJ Anderson (Peachtree Corners, Ga.) took a shot in the 84th minute but Davidson's keeper Sarah L'Hommedieu made the save.
Richmond falls just short of making the 2018 A-10 tournament finishing with seven points.
