Spider Voices: Going Out On Top
11/26/2018 | Cross Country, Spider Voices
By: Amanda Corbosiero, Redshirt Senior, Cross Country
As a fifth-year senior, this cross country season has been an extremely special one for me. We came into this season with lofty expectations—one goal being to reclaim our Atlantic 10 title. After winning the A-10 meet my sophomore year, and the girls winning the title my junior year while I was injured, it was pretty upsetting to come in second last year.
As the championship season came around, we were excited rather than nervous. Being as prepared as we were this season and having workouts come together perfectly, it fueled us with excitement for the big races because we knew what we were capable of doing.
This Atlantic 10 Championship meant so much to the team and I am so lucky to be a part of it as a fifth-year senior. We showed everyone who we are, and not only did we win but we did so in a dominant fashion.
My experience as a member of this team for the last four years has taught me so much about myself. I had some bumps along the way like most athletes do, but this team and coaching staff is unlike any other and every time we show up to meets I am reminded of why I chose Richmond in the first place. We make each other laugh before races and are reminded to have fun and push ourselves to another level every time we toe the line. The coaches challenge us in workouts and remind us before races what we are capable of. I could not thank them enough for shaping me into the athlete I am today.
Though my cross-country career is over, I am so excited to begin training for track. I do not have eligibility for indoor track, but I cannot wait to cheer these girls on as they accomplish some amazing things. When outdoor track rolls around, I will put my Richmond uniform on for one last season and embrace every step with my teammates and coaches by my side.
