Spiders Kick Off Busy Weekend with 7-0 Win Over Bridgewater

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. –Friday's hot temperatures didn't faze the University of Richmond men's tennis team.

The Spiders jumped out to an early lead and took care of business against visiting Bridgewater, defeating the Eagles, 7-0, in the first of three weekend matches.

Seniors Caleb Troy and James Aronson led the way in doubles play, defeating Joe Dillenbeck and Josh Rodgers 6-0 on court 1. Brice Polender and Klein Evans took down Freddie Roberts and Nathaniel Horner on court 2, 6-1, while Matt Fernandez and George Lovitt defeated Emmett Johnson and Sonet Gandhi at No. 3, also 6-1.

After taking the 1-0 lead, the Spiders didn't let up, posting a singles sweep. Joe Nardini started things off with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court 6 over Gandhi, before Evans downed Johnson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Polender posted a sweep on court 5 over Horner, and Lovitt made it 5-0 with a sweep of Roberts at No. 4.

Troy extended the Spider lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Dillenbeck on court 1, before Aronson rounded out the 7-0 score with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Rodgers.

The Spiders have a quick turnaround, as they travel to Greenville, North Carolina for a Saturday afternoon matchup with UConn on the campus of East Carolina. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
