Ryan Colton Named Associate Director Of Athletics For Compliance

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond Vice President and Director of Athletics, John Hardt has announced the hiring of Ryan Colton as the new Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance. Colton brings six years of intercollegiate athletic compliance experience to the program while also earning his Juris Doctor in 2007
"I would like to thank John Hardt and the Spider Leadership for this great opportunity," Colton said. "I have always had a great respect for the University of Richmond, both academically and athletically. I am looking forward to helping Richmond student-athletes achieve success in all aspects of their time at UR. My family and I are excited to join the Spider family!"
Colton has spent the past five years at the College of Holy Cross and the last three years as assistant athletic director for compliance. He was responsible for the continued development and enhancement of a culture of compliance through a strong monitoring program that ensures compliance with NCAA and Patriot League rules.
In addition to handling compliance, Colton oversaw student-athlete eligibility and the department's policies and procedures manual, while serving as the supervisor for the golf and swimming & diving programs. He is currently the chair of the NCAA Division I women's golf committee. He serves on various campus committees is a Title IX Investigator for the College.

"Ryan has been involved with every element of the NCAA compliance program at Holy Cross, and brings great experience as well as a vast knowledge of rules compliance to our operations in this critical area. At Richmond, we demand a culture of integrity and adherence to NCAA rules, and I anticipate Ryan's background in the legal field combined with his professional experiences at both Holy Cross and Providence College will contribute immediately to the overall success of Spider Athletics and have a positive impact on our programs."
Prior to his time at Holy Cross, Colton served as a special assistant to the athletic director at Providence College for two years. He served as a City Councilor in Taunton, Mass. for four years as was an attorney 2008-13. He spent two years working in the Massachusetts State Senate from 2006-08.
Colton was sworn into the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Bar in 2007 after earning his Juris Doctor from New England Law – Boston. A 2004 graduate of Bucknell University with a bachelor's degree in political science, Colton was a four-year member of the Bison football team as a quarterback.
Colton and his wife, Brittany, are the parents of two children, Grady and Ella.
