RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond placed 154 student-athletes on the Atlantic 10 Conference 2017-18 Commissioner's Honor Roll, which recognizes excellence in the classroom in sports sponsored by the conference.
This marks the first time the Commissioner's Honor Roll has been based on the entire academic year. Previously the award was granted following each semester. To be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and freshmen are eligible to receive the award.
The women's track and cross country program led the way for the Spiders with 24 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Women's lacrosse was second with 22 student-athletes while baseball (21), women's soccer (21) and field hockey (20) rounded out the top five. Women's swimming/diving had 17 student-athletes honored while women's tennis (8), women's basketball (6), men's cross country (5), men's golf (4), men's basketball (3) and men's tennis (3) were also honored.
The 3,168 student-athletes is the highest number of unique honorees in a single year. In previous years, the Commissioner's Honor Roll number was calculated by combining the fall and spring semester totals. The freshman class represented the largest number of honorees with 849, while 796 sophomore qualified. There were 745 seniors and 739 juniors recognized as well.
A complete list of honorees is included with this release.
