Spiders Sign Pair From North Carolina

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Two of the top-ranked junior golfers in North Carolina signed National Letters of Intent with Richmond on Wednesday and will join the Spiders golf team next fall. Alex Campbell of Charlotte Catholic High School and Garrett Clark of Walter M. Williams High School in Burlington, N.C. will continue their golf careers at Richmond.Â
Campbell is currently number 17 in the Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA) North Carolina Junior Boys' rankings. He has helped lead Charlotte Catholic to back-to-back North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 3A state titles. Last June, Campbell recorded a top-10 finish at the 52nd North Carolina Junior Boys' Championship.Â
Clark is ranked 27th in the latest TYGA North Carolina Junior Boys' rankings. Clark won the Charles Tilghman Junior Championship in December 2018. In September, he finished runner-up in 2019 TYGA State Championship.Â
Richmond's current roster is composed of two freshmen, two sophomores, three juniors, and a pair of seniors - Andrew Sciarretta and Zack Justice. The Spiders recorded two of the nine best 18-hole team scores in program history this fall and recorded their first top-three tournament finish since winning the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship.Â
