RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spider Leadership Initiative hosted a Spider Networking event for student-athletes this week at the Jepson Alumni Center on campus. The goal of the event was to allow Spider student-athletes a chance to speed interview and network with Richmond alums and friends of the program.
"The goal of our Spider Networking event was to help prepare our student-athletes for internships and future employment," Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development Lauren Wicklund said. "This event was able to teach our student-athletes the importance of relationships and the connections that Richmond will create in their lives that can help them forever."
Over 40 alums and friends of Richmond athletics with connections to local businesses attended the event that saw 55 Spider student-athletes from all sports participate. The student-athletes took part in a speed interview session that allowed them to answer questions and receive feedback on their interview answers. After the formal speed interview session, there was ample time for everyone at the event to network and build relationships that could provide contacts for future internships and employment.
"It's incredible that Richmond alumni are so willing to take time out of their busy schedules to help current student athletes with career planning," field hockey junior student-athlete Ally Ludwig said. It's clear that what they learned at UR both in the classroom and as student-athletes helps them in the professional world."
