RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team added two more recruits to their 2019 signing class in Ike Simon (Potomac, Md.) and Nick Mueller (Winchester, Va.), announced by head coach Houston Barrick Monday.
"I am so happy to announce the signing of Nick Muller and Ike Simon," Barrick said. "Both Nick and Ike fit the profile of the student-athlete we are trying to bring to UR. They have been incredibly successful on the court, but also just as successful in the classroom."
Mueller is a four-star recruit from John Handley High School and is rated fourth in Virginia. Mueller put together a stellar 23-1 singles record during his sophomore season leading his team with a runner-up finish in Group 4A. Mueller's only loss came against Virginia Tech freshman Trent Daly (7-6, 6-1), in the 4A West semifinals. Mueller is 117th nationally and holds a 23-13 record against other top recruits. Mueller spent his junior year at a tennis academy in Florida and has returned to Handley for his senior season.
Simon is a three-star recruit from Bullis School and is rated sixth in Maryland. Simon was a high school teammate of fellow signee Ricky Bell. Simon was named to the All-IAC and All-ISL teams in 2019. Simon was named MVP along with Bell this past season. Simon is 4-4 against other top-five recruits, including a perfect 3-0 record against two-star opponents.
"With the signing of Ricky Bell and now Ike and Nick, this recruiting class is going to be a huge part of our future success," Barrick said.
Simon and Mueller will join the Spiders for the 2019 fall season. For more information about the Richmond men's tennis team visit RichmondSpiders.com or follow us on twitter at spidermten.
