Richmond, Va. - Day one of the Fred Hardy Invitational meet is now complete, with the Spiders posting strong times and breaking program and meet records.
Day One Results
In the first track event of the day, Haley Berkeley ran in the 400 meter hurdles; her time of 1:01.89 sets a new school record after she lost the title to Maria Acosta last weekend. Erika Echternach ran a 11:30.84 in the 3k steeplechase, just shy of her personal record, taking fifth overall. The 800 meter invitational saw Brooke Fazio, Maria Acosta and Kendra Smither compete against a field of eight. Fazio and Acosta went first, second with times of 2:07.91 and 2:08.11 respectively. Fazio set the meet record with that time. Eryn Mills won the 1,500 meter event with a time of 4:31.39 while fellow Spiders Claire Brown (4:34.47), Amanda Corbosiero (4:38.87) and Caroline Robelen (4:45.42) went for second, fifth and tenth respectively. Freshman Johanna Lupica won the 5k among Division I athletes with a time of 17:53.63.
Members of the men's cross country team also competed at this home event. In the 1,500m, Noah Yuro recorded a time of 3:57.92, the fastest Spider in the event. Trey Burleson (4:00.14), Will Alpaugh (4:04.38) and James Flanagan (4:14.13) also competed. Miles Clikeman ran in the 3,000m event, taking a spot early in the lead pack and eventually breaking away to finish the first in the event with a time of 14:41.48, breaking the meet record by just tenths of seconds.
Tomorrow will see a longer events list with the field events starting at 9am and track events beginning at 11am. Senior day for cross country and track & field will be at 10:45am, just before the beginning of the day's events.
